Bespoke Woodworking
Every piece Stephen Robin has built began with a conversation. If you have an idea - however vague - we want to hear it. Furniture As Art takes commissions for one-of-a-kind furniture, custom kitchens, built-in libraries, and architectural woodwork of every description.
How It Works
01 - Conversation
It can be a rough sketch, a photo torn from a magazine, a dimension, or simply a feeling you want the piece to evoke. Stephen has been interpreting client visions for over 60 years - the vaguer the brief, the more interesting the conversation.
02 - Design
Stephen works directly with each client to refine dimensions, choose materials, and settle on joinery and finish. There are no intermediaries. You deal with the maker from the first call to final delivery.
03 - Build
Every commission is built in Stephen's 3,800 sq ft studio on Route 212. The shop is equipped with a full complement of hand tools and a large-format CNC router - capable of everything from delicate hand-cut joinery to complex curved forms.
04 - Delivery
Each piece leaves the shop finished to the highest standards of the craft - hand-rubbed oil, hand-applied lacquer, or whatever finish suits the wood and the client. Lead times vary by complexity; most furniture commissions are completed within 8-16 weeks.
